Monday Motivation: It's Not Over 'til I Win - Les Brown

Good Morning!
It's Memorial Day and Monday Motivation time! I would like to first give thanks to all of the fallen men and women in the military who served our country selflessly and courageously. We would not be the country we are today without the military ready to fight and do battle. It makes me proud to have served in the United States Army. -Selena

Sunday Inspiration: Believe in Your Abilities

Persistence, Persistence, Persistence...

I can't tell you how relieved I feel sitting and speaking with you on this beautiful Sunday. We have a long weekend and will be celebrating Memorial Day on Monday to thank all of the fallen military men and women who have served our country.

This Sunday's Inspiration
It takes a lot out of you to trust that what you believe inside of yourself is enough. Especially, as you graduate into your senior age of life, you feel as if you are not needed as much. However, I know that is not the case at all. I have been blessed to work with seniors in their homes and have learned so much about how to be a better person, but also how to be persistent and believe that what I am striving for is important. When I see my seniors with aches and pains, getting up in the morning to get the morning paper and fixing their breakfast and taking their medications, I just feel so happy. I feel happy because although they have those aches and pain and their bodies may not be cooperating as well as they would like, they haven't given up on their schedule for the day.

Now, how is this related to you and me who may still have the ability to go as we please and drive our cars as we please? Well, some of us who have all these accesses in the world, simply find ourselves in a state of procrastination when we feel stuck. Just this past Friday, I was working on an editing project and the time on the clock felt like it was racing so fast that I couldn't get my footing. I felt my head tightning and I didn't know how I was going to reach the deadline I had for today. I knew I was working diligently, but something would delay with the computer or someone would call on me to help them with something and my time would continue to quickly countdown. However, once everyone left, I stayed persistent and said to myself that I am going to complete this editing and get this project ready for today and I did it. However, "it felt like" all the odds were against me.

What do we do when we feel like all the odds are against us? We must stay consistent, persistent, and believe in our abilities. Through the aches and pains, through the disappointments and unexpected delays, we must continue to know that we have a divine purpose and we have people who are counting on us to arrive safely to our goals.

So, on this Sunday before Memorial day, take in this bit of Sunday Inspiration and know that I am counting on you and your family and friends are counting on you to arrive with "persistence" to your final goals in life. You can do it and you can do it against all odd.

Have a great Sunday with overwhelming blessings,
Selena

Sunday Inspiration: Not All Suffering and Pain Hurts?

Not all suffering and pain hurts? Sometimes I know it can be hard to understand how can pain and suffering be good for us. This morning I watched this video by Dr. Charles Stanley of In Touch Ministries and he really does a great job of explaining how our suffering and pain sometimes allows us to turn a critical eye on ourselves and understand who we really are. If everything was always going well in our lives, we wouldn't have anything to be thankful for and really mean it because we would be always expecting good things. When we are in a state where we are lacking resources or on our backs in bed with an illness, we then begin to see things in a more humbling manner.

Personally, I truly believe that in order for me to be the best I can be, I sometimes have to go through pain and when it arrives, it bites down hard and hurt. I don't want to accept it in the beginning, but when I get out of it I am more equipped to deal with a situation better the next time. I see the reason for the season and take it as a learning experience and not a hindrance. However, like you, I have to really trust that what is going on in my life is truly for a reason and repeat this form of thinking over and over in my mind to create a form of truth with it.

On this Sunday, take the time to sit down and look at where you are and what is going on in your life. Ask yourself, as Dr. Charles Stanley says in the video below
"God what are you trying to tell me and what do you want for me to learn and understand from this?"
You will be surprised at the answer you receive from the pain or suffering from a family member, friend, or just by coming across a front page article that you just happen to run by.

Until next time, keep your eyes open to the signs and wonders that God has for your life and know that not all suffering and pain is to hurt you. I know this may be hard to accept as we get into our senior years of life but know that they are to truly make you stronger and to move you through this life more efficiently and effectively.

Until next time, God bless.

HealtheFolk Friday: Easy Curry-Scrambled Tofu

Ridiculously Easy Curry-Scrambled Tofu brought to you by FatFreeVegan.com

Ridiculously Easy Curry-Scrambled Tofu

For years, the only scrambled tofu I ever made required a seasoning packet called Tofu Scrambler. I loved that product. It had just the right blend of seasonings and thickeners to conjure some magical response out of the blandness that is bean curd and turn it into what I considered the perfect breakfast. The idea of making scrambled tofu without that packet never even passed through my mind because–why? Tofu Scrambler made scrambled tofu just like I liked it–until one day it didn’t.

HealtheFolk Friday: Recipe from VegKitchen.com (Asian Styled Vegetable Stew

This HealtheFolk Friday is brought to you by VegKitchen.com

RECIPE OF THE WEEK

Southeast Asian Styled Vegetable Stew
By Nava Atlas
Broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, and peppers mingle in a rich coconut–peanut base, making a stew that's perfect for cool spring evenings. Adapted from Vegan Soups and Hearty Stews for All Seasons. Photo by Theresa Raffetto.

Serves 6

Printable Version

  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 cup light coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup Thai peanut sauce or natural smooth peanut butter
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 2 tablespoons natural granulated sugar
  • 3 to 4 ounces fine rice noodles or bean-thread noodles
  • 1 tablespoon light olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 cups bite-sized broccoli florets
  • 3 cups bite-sized cauliflower florets
  • 2 cups fresh slender green beans, trimmed and cut in half (see Note)
  • 1 large red bell pepper, cut into narrow 2-inch strips
  • 1 to 2 fresh chilies, to taste, seeded and minced (see Note)
Garnishes optional
  • Chopped peanuts
  • Sliced scallions
To make the sauce, combine the cornstarch with just enough water to dissolve in a medium-sized mixing bowl. Whisk until completely dissolved. Add the coconut milk, peanut sauce or peanut butter, lime juice and sugar, and whisk together until smooth. Set aside.

Cook the noodles according to package directions until al dente, then drain and cut into shorter lengths.

While the noodles are cooking, heat the oil in a soup pot. Add the onion and sauté over medium-low heat until translucent. Add the garlic and continue to sauté until both are golden.

Layer the broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, bell pepper, and chilies in the pot without stirring them in. Pour in 1 cup water. Bring to a rapid simmer (you’ll hear it rather than see it), then lower the heat. Cover and cook for 8 to 10 minutes, or until all the vegetables are tender-crisp.

Add the sauce to the soup pot and stir everything together well. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 5 to 10 minutes longer, uncovered, or until the sauce has thickened and the vegetables are just a bit more done than tender-crisp.

Place a small amount of noodles in the bottom of each serving bowl and ladle some of the stew over them. If you wish, garnish with chopped peanuts, sliced scallions, or both.

NOTES:
If fresh slender green beans are unavailable, substitute frozen. Try organic petite whole green beans for a nice effect. Red pepper flakes may be substituted for fresh chilies. Add at the same time as the sauce. Start with 1/2 teaspoon and add more to taste if you want a spicier effect.

A Tuesday for Frank Sinatra (The Way You Look Tonight)

Yes, it's Tuesday, but ladies and gentleman, it's a Tuesday for Frank Sinatra's The Way You Look Tonight!

I even found someone who was nice enough to post the words to the song for you! ;)

Have a good afternoon and evening!
Enjoy,

Selena

The Way You Look Tonight
Some day, when I'm awfully low,
When the world is cold,
I will feel a glow just thinking of you...
And the way you look tonight.

Yes you're lovely, with your smile so warm
And your cheeks so soft,
There is nothing for me but to love you,
And the way you look tonight.

With each word your tenderness grows,
Tearing my fear apart...
And that laugh that wrinkles your nose,
It touches my foolish heart.

Lovely ... Never, ever change.
Keep that breathless charm.
Won't you please arrange it ?
'Cause I love you ... Just the way you look tonight.

Mm, Mm, Mm, Mm,
Just the way you look to-night.

Monday Motivation: Zig Ziglar on Goal Setting

Good Morning,

I am happy to introduce to you an AWESOME video for your Monday Motivation with Zig Ziglar speaking on Goal Setting

If we want to achieve anything at any age we must first understand the importance of setting goals. Personally, I have finally learned how to write down my goals, BE SPECIFIC, and watch my subconscious and conscious work together to get them done each month this year! I have learned this from this man, the late Zig Ziglar, and others just like him. Now, I pass this wisdom on to you to begin manifesting success and personal accomplishments into your life.

This video will give you Zig Ziglar's Formula on Goal Setting. Watch the video below or CLICK HERE.

Enjoy and Happy Monday,

Sunday Inspiration: Against All Odds

Hello,

We have been blessed to make it to another Sunday Inspiration and today I am going to share a little tidbit of insight on how to prevail against all odds. At any age in life we are faced with situations that just can't be overlooked or shoved into the dresser drawer for another day. Some of us have to face health issues, debt problems, children facing criminal charges, foreclosure on the home, and even death of a loved one unexpectedly. So, how do we as one person overcome these obstacles against all odds?

The first thing some people might do is collapse into a great depression. Other people might isolate themselves from their friends and family to attempt to hide the truth and then there are others who may attempt to make friends with drugs and alcohol. I believe everyone has a friend, family member, or even the person within themselves who have settled on at least one of the above options, however, I myself, have learned to do away with at least one of these above.

I have learned from much personal development and spiritual wisdom that with every problem and obstacle there is a solution. It may be hidden deep down within us or spoke by a stranger just passing by, but there is a solution. God says,  "if ye seek ye shall find" and I believe this wholeheartedly. Here is a great example of this:
Have you ever misplaced your keys or a shoe and looked under the bed and in the closet about 10 times and became frustrated, then when you said, okay, I give up, then when you least expected it your keys or shoe just shows up?
This is what I'm referring to when I say seek and ye shall find. When we stop trying to stress ourselves over things that are out of our control and trust in God for a better understanding of our situations, we can rest in His reasoning and just move forward through the problem or obstacle "against all odds". He is the only person you have to answer to for guidance. He will show up and show out in your problem or obstacle if you would only step back and let him do his creative works in your situation.

I know, personally, in my own life, I get frustrated and wonder why things are happening around me and it makes me sad and worries me, but when I take a step back and sit down in my quiet place and take a breather, I suddenly hear those words in my conscious saying, "trouble don't last always, Selena, and there is a solution to these problems", then I suddenly begin to hear solutions and come across a message on the computer or on the radio if I'm driving and say, "wow, this is such a coincidence".

Why, is this such a coincidence and amazing? It's a coincidence and amazing because I let go of my own understanding and gave it over to a higher power who knew much more about me and my purpose and situations. He was beginning to work it out. It may take him a week, a month, or even years to fix my mess up, but he gives us free will to teach us how to do better the next time around. So, he is there for us.

In closing, on this Sunday, if you're having to tackle a problem or obstacle, remember that you don't have to go through it alone, because there is someone you don't have to wait to make an appointment with. He is available to you wherever you are and at any time of day or night. I am so thankful for this because sometimes, friends and family mean well, but they just can't tackle some issues that I may have and it's best to give it over to a higher authority of power who can work on it in a more humbling and peaceful way. In the end, teaching me how to react and handle my next problem or obstacle better in the future.

I hope you have a safe and happy Sunday.

Until next time,
Selena

Monday Motivation: Osama Bin Laden Dead and A Tragedy Now Rests in Peace

Monday Motivation: Osama Bin Laden Dead and A Tragedy Now Rests in Peace

Hello,

It's always a blessings to have the chance to speak with you, but today's Monday Motivation means so much more for many across this great United States of America and abroad.

On yesterday, I learned, as many of you, that Osama Bin Laden was found and is now dead, but this is not the only good news. We are also able to begin putting the pieces back together in our own lives after the many tragic losses of September 11th. We can now allow ourselves a chance to put a tragedy once stained in our memory on a daily basis, to a rest for moments in our memories. We are able now to allow our loved ones the chance to rest in peace and carry on their legacy and purpose that they so wanted for us.

It is not good that any man should die, but the fruits that Osama Bin Laden produced were his fate. I hope we all will learn from this event that we are all must pay a price for our actions and some actions cannot be corrected with a slap on the wrist or imprisonment. Although we have those measures in place, there are some who choose to want to die instead of paying for their crimes committed.

As I look back on where I was and what I was doing on September 11th. I was on Active Duty in the United States Army, just a couple of miles from the Pentagon and realized that it is a true blessing that God gave me another day to live and be able to share this moment with you. It is also a blessing to see the Navy Seal team coming together and working as a unit to get this mission accomplished. Outstanding job!

In closing, we must love one another and do good deeds for one another. However, we will always remember this day in the backs of our minds as the day that all the newspaper headlines read in their own ways: Osama Bin Laden is Dead

A Tragedy Now Rests in Peace.
