We Use Coupons FREE Community!

No one should ever go without coupons if they can help it. Coupons are saving people hundreds of dollars. I know one of my senior clients who diligently shops for the best coupons and deals for his local Walgreens, CVS, and Ralphs chains. It is definitely becoming more commonplace for people to commit to the coupon clipping and some decide to join communities of shoppers who have the skills to actually do some damage.

One amazing community I'm so happy I found was the We Use Coupons FREE Community. There are many coupons to choose from, tips from couponer pros, and advise on the daily deals of the week in one location.

I Wanna Be Me (Monday Motivation)

We are taught by society, as little children and into adulthood, to go to school, get a job, and start a family, etc. However, there are some people who just don't quite fit in that mold. There are some senior citizens who have retired and can look back on their unconventional ways of how they earned their livings. They have developed ideas, invented new innovative products, established a successful business or even decided to go into the military to fight in war for their country.

However, the ultimate point to this Monday Motivation is to let you know that it is alright to be what you 'wanna be'. In these days and times we must be more accepting of change and learning new innovative ways of thinking outside of the box to make a living.

I used to watch Sesame Street when I was little and they had a great way of explaining little life-lessons to me through songs. I just happen to find a great song video called I Wanna Be Me that I believe will help you to see in the most simplistic manner how important it is to step out on your own two feet in the direction you feel is right for you.

Some people may not understand what you are doing. Some may not understand why you have decided to reinvent yourself after retirement by going into another career or trade. However, we as people are best when we are living a life of purpose on our own terms. Let those who can't quite understand your unconventional ways of living, smirk, or convene secretly against you, but know that you are in control of your own destiny. No one can take away who you are and what you are meant to become for the greater good. On top of it all, no one can make you have if you, first, don't make yourself happy.

In closing, for this Monday Motivation, if you are retired and looking for a new passion, then I say begin today with your seeking and you will find it. Maybe it will be in an instrument, like Mr. Cott found, in the video to the right side panel of my blog here, that will give you a reason for living again. Just maybe it will be in traveling abroad and/or in the comfort of your home in business, but know that if you are still breathing, you still have a job to do, so make it an experience to remember.

For those who are still finding your first passion or purpose, keep experimenting and know that you have permission to be what you 'wanna be', which will ultimately lead you to 'being yourself' and not what society labels you as.

Have a fabulous Monday,
Selena

Crying Changes Things (Sunday Inspiration)

In our society, we have learned that crying is a sign of weakness and is accepted by women and looked down upon for men. Our men must learn to hold inside of themselves their disappointments, losses and feelings of hurt, in order to protect their manhood. However, I am here to tell you that crying changes things.

If you have ever been through something so life-changing that you couldn't do anything to avoid. It is alright to cry.

If you feel yourself being smothered by the fire of life, with no way of escaping. It is alright to cry.

If you have ever lost a loved one or a family member who made up the best part of your life, then you know what it feels like to shed that tear.

Crying is a way to renew the spirit and begin the process of beginning again. When you allow yourself the time to cry and face what is bother you, within, you're giving your body, mind, and spirit, permission to let it go and help you to move forward.

As one gets older and lives longer, it can be tear-jerking to see people who you were in high school, college, or on the job with, die before your eyes. There are many senior citizens each day who find themselves living well into their 90s and have watched their friends pass on. They are left alone, but they are able to live on and remember the good times because they have made peace with their losses.

Just as a child cries to seek comfort, food, changing, or attention, we as adults must learn to use our tears as a comforting measure to get us back on track with our lives.

I have learned in my own life that crying changes things. I have learned that I am not too old or too prideful to shed my tears for a better understanding of who I am. I am bold enough to cry for a better world and for communities of people to live, but live also in unity. I have also learned that crying is also a great way to just say thank you to God for all the goodness that he provides to myself and those who are around me.

In closing, for this Sunday Inspiration, I hope that you will begin to make a personal investment in yourself and who you are. I am believing that you will begin the process of healing your spirit from the losses, misfortunes, disappointment, and pains of the past, in order to begin your new walk of purpose in this life.

Have a great Sunday and until next time, blessings to you.
Selena

Diagnosing Alzheimer’s (HealtheFolk Friday by Senior Citizen Journal)

People often associate Alzheimer’s with a memory disease and although the destruction Alzheimer’s causes has largely to due with memory, it is a disease of the brain and affects all cognitive functions. Alzheimer’s is known as a disease that mainly affect older adults and seniors and therefore, detection is sometimes difficult.

Many Alzheimer’s symptoms closely resemble the natural signs of aging. So how does one tell what is normal and what is a warning sign of something much larger?

The National Institute on Aging identifies seven Alzheimer’s warning signs that were originally published by The Suncoast Gerontology Center, University of South Florida.  They are:

1. Asking the same question over and over again.
2. Repeating the same story, word for word, again and again.
3. Forgetting how to cook, or how to make repairs, or how to play cards — activities that were previously done with ease and regularity.
4. Losing one’s ability to pay bills or balance one’s checkbook.
5. Getting lost in familiar surroundings, or misplacing household objects.
6. Neglecting to bathe, or wearing the same clothes over and over again, while insisting that they have taken a bath or that their clothes are still clean.
7. Relying on someone else, such as a spouse, to make decisions or answer questions they previously would have handled themselves.

Flea Markets are Latest Venue for Counterfeit Goods

Sometimes it's important to share information that will help you understand what you are getting during your shopping ventures. Well, today, for Coupon Wednesday, I ran across a great link found on We Use Coupons leading to an article titled, Flea Markets are Latest Venue for Counterfeit Goods. It appears that what you may be getting at your local Flea Markets may be 'knock-offs of red-hot brands' as the article puts it.

Monday Motivation: The Power of Declarations

It is truly one thing to say that you want something badly, but it is truly another to focus on it and take action to achieve it. Sometimes we all have open-ended thoughts that we would hope would manifest into something tangible that we could hold. However, the fact of life is that we all have doubts and sometimes those doubts germinate into something that is less motivational and encouraging. But, when we see those feelings of doubt beginning to creep into our minds, we have to learn how to reject them and reassess our motives.

Every morning I have began to say some declarations out loud while touching my heart that has really helped me to stay on track and focused throughout my day. Because, as you know, not everyone that will cross your path today is on this transformational journey or care to be. So, you have to have your guard up and ready to protect your own inner peace.

Here are some of the declarations I repeat every morning and I wanted to share them with you today for our Monday Motivation:

1. My Inner World creates my Outer World.

2. I release my non-supportive money experiences from the past and create a new and rich future.

3. I think big! I choose to help thousands and thousands of people.

4. I promote my values to others with passion and enthusiasm.

5. I am committed to constantly learning and growing.

These declarations and others are spoken every morning before I begin my day. They set me up for a more positive outlook on my day and to accept people a lot better who may have gotten up on the wrong side of the bed. Remember, it doesn't matter what age you are because we all need some form of declaration that we can say to ourselves to empower us and keep us strong. This is especially important as we get older. Try them and share your experiences. I have to thank T. Harv Eker for these declarations from his book The Secrets of the Millionaire Mind.

Blessings to you on this Monday and beyond,

Selena Brown

Monday Motivation: Hardwork "Pays" Off

As we all know, in this economy, we all have to work a little bit harder and learn a little bit more. It is even becoming more important for the senior citizen population to work even after retirement. However, where this all becomes satisfying is how much hard work "pays" off.

To have fun, retire comfortably, and become wealthy beyond your own imagination, requires a commitment to self that many of us just do not have the ability to sustain. We want to be wealthy and accomplish big things, or live comfortably after retirement, but we falter on the opportunities provided to us when we secretly asked for them.

Along with my busy schedule I sometimes enjoy a good book. I know one of my senior clients who reads a book or novel a day. She finds complete pleasure in reading a great book so when I was wandering through the library and went to the personal development section, just to see what was there and came up with gold, I was just as satisfied!

I would recommend this book to anyone who is lost and trying to find out how to put all of their hard work into a position to create wealth. T. Harv Eker has helped thousands of people of all ages with their roadblocks that causes them to lose their direct path to wealth and their greatness. He doesn't sugar-coat anything and tells you like it is. If you want to begin to get out of debt, attract wealth into your life, rekindle positive relationships into your life, or just want to be a millionaire or more for the greater good of life, then this will be the book for you to begin reading and applying to your life TODAY!

I really like to practice what I preach, so I've finished reading the entire book a couple of days ago during the Carmageddon, here in Los Angeles, CA. I can report that today, I am attracting more work into my life, which will allow money to work for me and me not work for money, mindset and views on money have changed to the point that I understand that in order to help others and be a person of purpose, I must have money to make things happen in this life. I am even more inspired to declare what I want and speak it as if it is already here. I encourage each of you in the stage of life that you are currently, to go to your local library or bookstore online, and purchase or borrow this book called, Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T. Harv Eker. Then once you have read it through and begin to apply the steps he lays out in the book, leave a comment within this post of your progress.

It is now time for us as individuals to come together to create the life, the jobs, the opportunities, the retirement, the relationships, that we so desire. There is no need to wait for anyone to give you anything or do anything for you because you are being supplied the tools within this book. So, go get it and share with us here, how you have started to see changes within your life.

I look forward to hearing about your transformations and how hardwork "pays" off within your life.  -Selena Brown

Sunday Inspiration: Drowning In Your Love

There comes a time in all of our lives where we figure out and open ourselves up to this factor in life called love

Sometimes it comes in like a breath of fresh air and sometimes it's unplanned and takes us by surprise. More and more as I watch entertainment news broadcasts, it makes me uneasy inside to see how many people fall in and out of love so quickly.

I question:

Why they chose to pursue the journey of love in the first place? Why would they put themselves in a situation to damage the path of love for themselves and the other person when they know what the final outcome will be?

This past week, I have been very fortunate to have spent a lot of time with a couple that will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this coming December. When you see these two little people communicating with each other and tending to their daily life together as if they have just met, it started to dawn on me what to share with you for this Sunday Inspiration titled, Drowning in Your Love.

I am no rocket scientist on love and I believe that love is a very sensitive place to be for anyone at any age. We are at our most vulnerable state of being when we have truly tapped into the love factor of ourselves. Have you ever met someone in high school, while walking the dog, or through a best friend and felt a connection that is so undeniable that you couldn't help but desire to pursue it, but felt as if you would almost drown if you accepted the affects of it?

I, personally, love to love people and accept people for who they are because I am one with a love that is most sensitive and enjoy the times to capture the purity of love amongst people. However, when you seek and find the love that is way beyond the superficial, it is one that will cause you to feel as if you are drowning in your love for them.

Personally, I don't dare say that I am an expert on love, but I can say that there is One who fills me with perfect love, so intense that I feel as if I am drowning. I trust God to fulfill the love that's so desperately needed when times are just hard and I am out of balance with my path or purpose.

In closing, in this life it is so special to see true love. To see how strong love can endure through Alzheimer's Disease, Dementia, War, and even Death. When love is given purely, there is no one or nothing that can break that bond. We all may falter on who we want people to think we are or see us as, but when love is truly experienced from a pure and vulnerable place the hold we have on ourselves is void and we can do nothing but embrace the inevitable.

Love and blessings to you this Sunday,
Selena

Checking Grocery Store for Meat Markdowns

Checking your Store for Meat Markdowns
Brought to you by WeUseCoupons - posted by Shoppingfever

When I tell people that we rarely spend more than $50.00 a week on groceries, they always respond with, "But that doesn't include your meat does it?" I have a two part answer to that. "Yes and No!" We hit meat markdowns as often as we need to in order to fill our freezers! Sometimes we might spend more if we have hit a huge markdown. Sometimes we can go weeks without buying meat and still have it every night for dinner.

I know the approximate time my store is marking down meat. Between 4:00 pm-5:00 pm in the afternoons, and again the next morning between 8:30 am-9:30 am. There are usually always two markdowns before my store has to remove the meat from being sold. Sometimes the first markdown is okay but the second markdown, if you are willing to wait, is the one that has meat reduced to around 60% off.

What can you get in meat markdowns? Anything the meat department sells! Chicken, pork chops, roasts, steaks, you name it, and you can find it on meat markdown. The key is when you see it, spend the money to go ahead and buy extra packs, throw it in the freezer, then soon you will have plenty of meat to choose from week to week. Being married to a meat and potatoes guy, we have meat on our table every night. With two deep freezers, we have lived off of our meat stockpile for three months without ever having to buy meat during that time. Read More Here...

Monday Motivation: Wake Up Call

By Selena Brown

I don't know if this is a Monday Motivation to plant a seed of change or a wake up call to invoke change. As we see our world and all the conflicts that go on in it each and every day, it may cross your mind whether anyone even cares. If no one speaks about the problems that are right in front of us in our communities, the lack of funding for education, the child's play going on among the politicians, and the earth's cries because of how we are treating it, then we are dead already.

Have you ever stopped to wonder how much pressure we are putting on our earth with all of the contaminants, pollutions, and atmospheric toxins. The earth is where we live and what keeps up safe from the hindrances of beyond, but the Earth itself will one day get tired of the antics and desire to repair itself once and for all. It will clean up our mess as it does today via volcanoes, earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, and other natural disasters. It will continue to clean up our mess until one day we realize that the mess includes mankind.

When will the decision-makers of our day realize that it is more serious problems in our world than who will win the next White House Presidential Election or how much money they can funnel through an election campaign to evoke their winning candidate. Some day all this will not matter at all because we will cease to exist because our focus was on the wrong things and not on the very thing that keeps us alive.

For this Monday Motivation, I have chosen to share this 5 minute video from a young lady who voiced her feelings of what our Earth is becoming and how our actions and the actions of our politicians are destroying the existence that we rely on to survive.

If we don't begin to listen, we will cease to exist because we are just a small part of a larger component called Earth. The Earth has removed species of dinosaurs, civilizations, and other inhabitants before that we are finding in our scientific discoveries, so why must we think that we are any different.

Sunday Inspiration: It is Inside You

We are all destined for greatness far beyond our own understanding. It is so powerful and breath-taking that we allow ourselves to marvel at its beauty from a distance in others and not ourselves. However, it is our duty to ourselves to hold it and live it and allow it to mold us as it lives within us.

Time and time again we choose to embrace what is average or normal to our everyday lives. We choose to brand ourselves with what we believe is right from what we see in the media, in our friends, and mostly from our childhood memories and not what we feel is speaking to us from within the deep compartments of our souls. It is inside you...

In this well-developed video for this Sunday Inspiration, it shares with you how powerful you and I really are to this earth and to ourselves. It shares with you the importance of choosing what you want and following the signs, wonders, information given in your daily walk through this life to achieve what you want. This in-turn will ultimately lead you to the life that you so deserve and desire.Your time is now and I choose to live in it and hope that you will do the same as you open your mind, body, and spirit to what is already hidden inside of you waiting for your acceptance and re-awakening.

Blessings to you and yours this Sunday and beyond,
Selena

TheOldFolksKnowBest.com on Independence Day 2011- Your Monday Motivation

Flag 4 by tome213
Wow! This is a very special Monday Motivation because it's a time to celebrate our Independence Day as a country. So many of our senior citizens have fought in wars for our country and have paid their dues so that we can be free and an Independent Nation under God.

I hope that as you come together with your family and friends, watch fireworks, eat barbecue, and just take in the celebrations, you remember how far we've come.

There may be trials and tribulations in our lives. There may be times when we wonder if our voices are heard. There even may be moments where we question our own existence, but know that above all, you are apart of a free and protected nation compared to other countries who experience bombings, life-threatening raids, and catastrophic occurrences, daily, which really puts the meaning of life in a whole new perspective.

"Believe in freedom for all people and have a very special Independence Day in this 2011 year, from TheOldFolksKnowBest.com!" -Selena Brown

Senior Citizens and Habitat for Humanity - Monday Motivation

Community is about giving back to the less fortunate. When we all come together to share our time, we are investing into something that is greater than ourselves. We are a family unit from different walks of life and sometimes different cultures but we all serve one purpose.

In the following video, you will see how senior citizens from a local senior living facility is volunteering with a great organization, Habitat for Humanity, to help build homes for the less fortunate. One lady in the video said it best, it is a way for them to give back to the young people so that they may reach the level they have achieved.

They have the time and with the time comes a priceless gift to someone else in need.

If you are a senior citizen or the family member, take the time to explore the different ways you can volunteer your time in the community. It will enrich your life. I guarantee it.

Have a great day and many blessings to you and yours on this Monday.

Sunday Inspiration:Transformation in You

Sometimes its hard to smile when you feel pain in your body or aches in your bones. You wonder how in the world will you get through the day. Your mind wants to work overtime to get chores around the house completed, but your body says, "NO WAY!".

Personally, I know how it feels to be under the weather, we all do at some point in our lives, but we should not let it become who we are. Today, instead of letting the pain in my head from sinuses give me a bad day, through it all, I smile.

Take some time today and ask yourself these questions. I do believe that when we ask ourselves the right questions, the answers do appear. They may not be what you want them to be, but you ultimately receive the truth and that is what begins the healing process.

So ask yourself:
1. What am I going through today that's creating havoc in my life?

2. How am I letting it affect me in a negative way?

3. What kind of affects is it having on the people around me, whom I love dearly (children, grandchildren, girlfriends, tennis buddies, etc.)?

Remember, we allow things to create the person we are at any given moment. How can we turn these situations or problems around to work in our favor?

Now, it's time to restate your issues at hand in a more productive manner:
1. What am I to learn from this problem or situation?

2. How can this pain, lack of, or vulnerable moment create in me a better person or voice for others?

Sunday Inspiration
Today, find the Transformation in You:

Have a blessed day,
Selena

Your Triumph - Spirit of the Marathon: Sunday Inspiration

This morning I was tossing and turning in my thoughts and wondering what to say to you for our Sunday Inspiration. Then, I took a deep breath and became one with my mind, body, and spirit, and began to feel so alive and as if I've completed my first marathon. In retrospect, I can say that in these past few months, for me, it has been a true test of will and courage.

This feeling of achievement and burst of energy led me to a great video, The Spirit of the Marathon, to share with you how your triumph is transformational. I don't know how many times I say to myself, "when is the day going to come when I have reached the place in my life where I feel just right, not too anxious, not too complacent, but right in the middle?" Then I realized that the best place to be is in the state of being where you feel as if you have triumphed over something greater than you could possibly imagine.

In this video, these marathon runners are of different age groups. They all have their own personal stories of why they decided to test their will-power and bodies for 26 miles of road. They train and train, some just hoping to reach the finish line to prove to themselves that they can do it. Others, use their marathon journey as a form of financial inspiration for their families in other parts of the world.

The affects that your triumph has on you depends on how long and hard the road is to achieving what you personally believe is neverending.

On this Sunday, take the time to look in the mirror and place your hand over your heart and say these words:
I choose to triumph over that which is greater than myself
by trusting that I can with what I have, presently, inside and out.
Peace be with you,
Selena

More Olive Oil in Your Diet May Help Lower Risk of Stroke

Olive oil
June 15, 2011 -- Cooking with heart-healthy olive oil and using it for salad dressing may cut stroke risk, according to new research published online in Neurology.

In the new study, seniors who regularly used this healthy monounsaturated fat had a 41% lower risk of stroke compared to their counterparts who never used olive oil.

“This is the first study to suggest that greater consumption of olive oil may lower risk of stroke in older subjects, independently of other beneficial foods found in the Mediterranean diet,” study author Cecilia Samieri, PhD, with the University of Bordeaux and the National Institute of Health and Medical Research in Bordeaux, France, says in an email.

So what exactly is it about olive oil that may lower stroke risk?...READ THE ENTIRE ARTICLE

Monday Motivation: Les Brown, Live Full-Die Empty

I have had the privilege of listening to some great speakers both LIVE and through recorded CDs and DVDs and I must say that Les Brown surely takes the cake. He is a true pioneer and one to model after if you are wanting to break into the newness of life that you so much deserve. I happened across this outstanding video of Les Brown speaking on the topic, Live Full, Die Empty and I wanted to share with you how powerful this insight he shares can be in your life.

Whether you are recently retired or getting prepared to enter retirement, this will help you to stand on both feet a little easier and with open arms to a greater life of possibilities. If you are still in the workforce and trying to understand how to change your current situation, I personally, recommend that you stop what you're doing and take a listen to this man, Les Brown, as he gives you a short lesson on how to Live Full and Die Empty. Then if you're so inclined, you can get the full DVD of the entire session to listen proactively in your own home and/or with others in your family.

It will start you on a better path and hopefully trigger an idea or concept inside of you that has been sitting and pruning, just waiting for the right moment or chance encounter to reveal itself.

Today, I was in the Trader Joe's with a senior and ran into a senior gentleman who had a T-shirt that said, "I'm currently away from my computer...". I suddenly began to smile and I told him that I loved his shirt and he eventually said, "I've retired. I really find myself spending more time behind my computer," and he laughed with joy. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to just sit behind your computer after retirement and live the life that was destined for you?

Well, it's your time and it's my time and everyone's time who reads this, to step out of the box and create a life where we all Live Full so that we may Die Empty when that day should come. Enjoy.

Sunday Inspiration: You Were Created Perfect

It is truly a wonder how we are all different. We all come from different cultures and have different ways of understanding. When we were born from the womb of our mothers, we were created perfect in God's eyes. He created us for His ultimate purpose and sometimes that purpose can seem hard to find and even understand.

As we go through the stages of childhood to our teenage years and then to the final stage of adulthood, we begin to adopt the practices, traditions, and mentality of our family and others with whom we associate ourselves. However, ultimately, we were created by God and created perfect.

The media, your friends, and some of your family, at times, may make you believe that you are not perfect in the skin you're in. You may think that you have to improve your face, your hips, your stomach and even your personality, but no, we were created perfect by God.

Personally, I find it a great pleasure to be among different cultures. I learn how they think, their perceptions of others and how really similar we are when it comes to sharing our love, joy, peace, and even spiritual hopes with each other. It is truly something to marvel as I drive or walk the streets and see us as humans living our own purpose and sharing our hopes and dreams with others.

On this Sunday, I pray that you will look in the mirror at yourself and see how beautiful and handsome you are in the skin you're in. The human body you were created with is a blessing from God. The shade of skin, the wrinkles on your face which shows how seasoned you are, the love for life that you exhibit in your smile and the eyes, nose and lips, with which you use to help other identify you, are perfect.

I know it may seem hard at times to accept who you are with all the noise in the atmosphere, but know that there is only One who loves you more than anything. He is the ultimate provider as well as the ultimate answer to all your prayers and struggles. He created you for His purpose and know that with any handicap you may feel that you have, He can use you with that. If there is a limb missing that you feel shy of, know that He is ready to use you as a voice for his purpose.

Remember, you were created perfect.

Have a blessed Sunday,
Selena

Inspirational Video: Over 90 and Loving It

Alrighty, I had to share with all of my senior citizens and their families how important it is to live to the fullest each and every day regardless of age. Today, senior citizens are reinventing themselves over 90 and loving it!

Personally, I can't get enough of all the great articles, videos and books that share how senior citizens are defying stereotypes and doing great things to keep themselves happy in the next phase of their life after retirement.

Here is a great video I just had to share with you and I hope it will enrich your life to keep on moving and trusting in the fact that you are a much better person, inside-out, each year you get older. I'm happy to have seen another birthday on June 9th and I'm looking forward to many more!

Enjoy the video HERE or Watch Below!

HealtheFolk Friday: Water Aerobics for Senior Citizens

Welcome to another HealtheFolk Friday where today we will share with you the benefits of Water Aerobics. I was with a friend on yesterday and she loves sharing all the fun activities that she's apart of and she is in her 60s and absolutely loves her water aerobics class every week.

I have heard a lot of about this type of exercise and how it is a lot more easier for senior citizens to work out their muscles.  Here are also some benefits to water aerobics:
Water Exercise is especially suited to:
- people attempting to regain strength and flexibility after an injury or surgery,
- sedentary people just starting an exercise program,
- individuals wanting to lose weight and gain muscle tone,
- fitness enthusiasts and athletes seeking to maintain or increase their fitness level, and
- aquatic therapists and exercise instructors looking to expand their knowledge of water exercise.

I found a great video explaining the benefits of water aerobics for senior citizens, which you can watch here or below this post!

The summer is almost officially here in a couple more weeks, so if you're into staying fit or getting fit, I would recommend finding your local YMCA or community pool where there are classes and get started! I'm going to go myself along with my friend to experience it for myself! YAY!

To a healthier you in 2011,
Selena
