Safety Equipment for Older Adults - HealtheFolk Friday

HealtheFolk Friday Working with older adults, you soon realize how important safety equipment is for the home and outside of the home.

For this HealtheFolk Friday, I have listed the Safety Equipment for Older Adults that I know, from personal experience, really makes a difference.

All Safety Equipment listed below are provided by Ez2Care and can be purchased through any link below provided by Amazon.

Ez2care Deluxe Padded Seat Rollator with Storage Box, Red

Buy on Amazon
This is a rollator, which is a very reliable piece of safety equipment when an older adult still has the ability to walk on their own, but need a little more security than a cane. If they are taking a stroll in the park or through a local market and get tired very easily, they can sit on the seat provided to rest. There is also a little storage compartment as well. It is also much easier to close up and put into my automobile. It gets two thumbs up from me!

Product Features
*Easily installed and provide support up to 250 pounds
*Aluminum anodized structure ensures maximum strength while remaining   lightweight
*Storage compartment under the comfortable padded seat
*Ergonomically designed handle brakes are comfortable and easy to use

Ez2care Deluxe Raised Toilet Seat with Removable Arms and Lock

Buy on Amazon
When you decided on the toilet for your home, I don't think you thought about how high or low it should be or will you be able to sit down on it safely as you got older. Well, if you're like most of us, you will probably need a raised toilet seat. These are great because they give the older adult more security as they stand up and sit down. They can be removed easily and installed easily as well. This is another must-have!
Product Features
*Heavy duty molded plastic structure provides strength and durability
*Foam padding extends to the entire armrest to provide extra comfort while in use
*Ideal for those who cannot adapt to regular toilet height due to injuries
*Fits round toilets
*Easy to install

Ez2care Bathtub Rail, White

I truly believe if older adults are left alone, in their homes, to shower or bathe themselves it is necessary for them to have bathtub rails or shower rails. They really help to avoid slips and falls in the bathroom

Product Features
*Easily installed on the side of the bathtub
*Supports up to 250 pounds
*Provides stability moving in and out of the bathtub
*Clamp adjusts from 3" to 6'', accommodates most bathtubs

On this past weekend, I had the great privilege of meeting with Mr. Cott, who is now 92 years old and still living a fulfilling life. He is a tennis player and most of all a really awesome viola player. He plays in a symphony orchestra and has his own string quartet. He wanted to share another musical selection with you from Massenet's 'Meditation', from the Opera Thais.

After retirement he discovered he had more to offer the world and found it in music. Enjoy!

As more older adults find themselves retiring, they are discovering that they must continue to work even after their years on the job. Some are having to look for part-time work outside of the home, but others are finding that their extra income can come from other hobbies such as jewelry making! When I work with older adults in adult living facilities, I find that jewelry-making is really popular. The residents even give their favorite-designed gifts to their fellow neighbors. It's a way to show appreciation and friendship.

Gluten Free Recipes - HealtheFolk Friday

Your HealtheFolk Friday:

Are you gluten intolerant and searching for Gluten Free Recipes that will satisfy your taste buds?

Then you're in the right place.
Two months ago, I was working with an older woman in her early 60s on my second short film project. We completed many rehearsals and she was identifying with her character very well. However, when she arrived a couple of weeks later to film her scenes, she seemed very tired, often thirsty and not present in the moment. Although we did get our work completed, I left that day wondering if she was okay. During a luncheon, I organized for the cast, she informed me that she had found out from her doctor that she was gluten intolerant. It would attack her body when she ate certain foods. I was so uneducated by this and decided to do my homework on this topic and find recipes that would help others who are living with this health issue.
MY HOMEWORK:

According to What is Gluten Intolerance,
Gluten is a sticky protein that is found in many cereal grains including wheat, rye, barley and oats. It is what gives dough its elastic texture and gives bread its chewy consistency.
Gluten intolerance, also known as gluten sensitivity, is a condition where they body has an immune reaction when foods containing gluten are consumed.
Gluten intolerance symptoms are similar to those of celiac disease.
Some symptoms can include:
  • anemia, diarrhea
  • fatigue
  • inflammation
  • malnutrition
  • weight loss
  • weight gain
  • muscle cramps

Coupons for Kroger

This past week I really wanted some cereal to go with my Soy milk and was so shocked at the prices. However, Food4Less and Ralphs had an amazing sale on named brand cereals. I ended up getting a box of Kroger Raisin Bran for $1.88 from Food4Less since it was nearest to my home, which to me, was a great deal! I'm a very simple cereal eater and want a healthy choice but with a decent pricetag.

If I needed Coupons for Kroger, my first visit would be to the Kroger thread in the WeUseCoupons Community. This community is FREE to join and knows how to shop.

I am continuing to learn so much about couponing. It is definitely a job within itself but a rewarding one once you catch on to it.

I even keep up with what's going on in the WeUseCoupons community while I'm away when I receive their weekly newsletter.

Every Wednesday, I enjoy spotlighting something great that's going on within the community and today was especially for Coupons for Kroger.

Happy Shopping!

Vintage Crochet Patterns

Searching for amazing Vintage Crochet Patterns with easy to follow instructions, that are hard to find in stores, and will impress your crochet and knitting community?

Fabulous.

Personally, I love everything vintage. In my local area here in Los Angeles, CA there are vintage clothing stores and I even find a lot of cool things in the thrift shops.  In addition to that, during my down time, I enjoy to crochet as a form of relaxation and recently I found a vintage crochet patterns collection that dates back to the 1890s – the early 1900s. The collection of crochet and knitting patterns are so original that you can't find them in your regular craft stores. The collection was developed by Laynee Jenkins, who tells about her experiences trying to find creative vintage crochet patterns and took it upon herself, for months, to compile them into two volumes, available in .pdf downloads.

She shares a great video about both volumes, just click here.

Laynee provides many patterns that will keep you busy for a long time, from a pattern for a bridal purse, lady half-hand mitts, to window curtains. There are many bonus stitches and creative ideas as well.

Are you apart of or organize a crochet and knitting community? Well, you can:

1.  Decide on a particular vintage crochet pattern from Laynee's collection.

2. Print it out from the downloadable .pdf

3. Allow everyone within your community enough time to work on your selected pattern

4. Come together for tea and see what fabulous creation everyone was able to accomplish!

You will have a new challenge for your community every month!

I know that if you are searching for vintage crochet patterns then this is the one-of-a-kind collection for you! Laynee's 317 Vintage Crochet Patterns

In everything you set out to do, make sure to have fun!
